Is there any age restriction when hiring a vehicle?
Drivers must be between 21 and 75 years of age. There are restrictions on driving the 7.5 ton vehicles and minibuses, dependant on when the driver passed their driving test. Please call one of our depots for further details and our staff will be happy to advice. For people aged 21 to 24 years of age, please talk to a member of staff as there is a surcharge.
What documentation do I need to bring with me when hiring a vehicle?
To hire a vehicle you must bring your valid driving licence & your DVLA Check Code this can be found at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence. You will also need to bring a second form of identification; either a debit card or credit card, cash point card or passport, together with an up to date bill or similar within the last two months that matches the licence.
Do you supply your vehicles with a full tank of fuel?
Our vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel. We ask that the vehicle be returned full of fuel. If this is not possible we will re-fuel the vehicle and add the cost to the invoice. Please refer to the office for fuel charge per litre. As a flexible benefit we also offer a prepaid fuel package.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payments by Visa, MasterCard, Switch & Maestro please be aware use of an Amex card carries a charge that comes from the card company.
Is there an insurance excess?
Yes. The insurance excess is applicable per incident. The amount of the excess depends on the age and driving history of the driver. We do offer an excess reduction package as part of our flexible benefit, please ask a member of staff for details.
What is the mileage allowance?
One day hires are subject to 300 miles free then 15p per mile thereafter. Two day hires or more are unlimited, except where specified. There is a maximum of 2500 miles allowed per 28 days rental then a charge of 15p per mile applies.
How much do additional drivers cost?
Additional driver charges vary depending on the size of vehicle required and age of the driver. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions page for insurance charges. We will need to see each additional driver with their licence and second identification prior to them being insured.
What are your normal opening hours?
Office hours - Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday 8.30 am to 12pm, a return on Sunday 10 to 11 am can be pre-booked an extra charge will apply (closed on UK bank holidays). Out of hours can be serviced, please talk to a member of staff at the office.
Do you have an out of hour's service?
Yes for customer using the airport, there is an additional charge for this.
Can I return a vehicle out of your normal office hours?
Yes with prior arrangements with renting branch. Unfortunately, the vehicle has to be inspected by one of our members of staff so you must return to our depot during open hours as instructed at the commencement of the hire.
Can I take a rental vehicle to another country in Europe?
Yes by prior arrangement with us. Additional charges will apply and the necessary documentation will need to be issued. Please call for a quotation to suit your individual requirements.
What do I do in the event of a breakdown?
In the event of a breakdown all vehicles are covered by 24 hour breakdown cover. You will find the emergencey number on the windscreen or glove box. Alternatively, please call our 24 hour office numbers in the event of an emergency.
Are there any fees for modifying booking details or for cancelling a booking?
You can cancel your booking a non-refundable booking fee of £50 or the cost of the hire if this is lower is taken. If you have selected a Pay Now, modification fees may apply. Please read the Booking Terms and Condition of your rate before confirming the booking. Please note, that in the case of cancellation, no show or modification of your Pay Now reservation, your payment will be refundable subject to the fees set out in Booking Terms and Conditions.
For Pay on Return rates there are no modification or cancellation fees until 24 hours before the rental. Please note that a non-cancellation fee may apply to pay on Return bookings if you fail to collect your car without having cancelled at least 24 hours prior to pick up.
If I bring the car back early can I have a refund?
LU Car & Van Rental charge in periods of 24 hours so regardless of whether you rent for 2 hours or 24 hours, the charge will be for one day. If you are returning the car more than 24 hours in advance, the refund will depend on the type of rate you have booked. For further information check the Booking Terms and Conditions.
